1. Peperomia Tetragona/ Parallel Peperomia
There is no contest for me—this is my favourite peperomia by a landslide! It is also a very easy to grow peperomia variety, and a fast grower at that! It is tolerant of medium light. Mine live pulled back from an Eastern window and is thriving! It’s also very forgiving of a late watering, as long as you are careful not to overwater (which applies to all peperomia) your plant will be very happy. Bonus: it is also very easy to propagate!
2. Peperomia Obtusifolia
Also known as the “baby rubber plant”, this peperomia is a classic for a reason! Its thick succulent leaves retain water, so if you are an underwaterer this plant is an excellent choice because it will not hold it against you. The green variety is medium light tolerant, and the variegated version does prefer bright indirect light, but it is well worth it! The variegated leaves are absolutely stunning and look like a painting.
3. Peperomia Caperata “Luna Red”
Who could resist those purple-red crinkly leaves? The hardiest of the caperata species (notably missing from this is the pink lady variety which is a little more fussy). The Luna Red peperomia is medium to even low light tolerant, and although its thinner leaves may get thirsty a little more quickly than your obtusifolia, it may wilt but will bounce back after watering.
4. Peperomia Clusiifolia “Ginny”
One might assume with this peperomia’s sweet variegation and light pink edging on the leaves that it may have complicated care needs, but that is not the case! This would be a contender for one of the easiest peperomia to grow, because as long as it isn’t overwatered, it’s forgiving in all other areas. Low light tolerant, drought tolerant, but they will thrive with medium light and proper care of course. This is a great beginner plant that’s affordable, easy to find, and also very adorable
5. Peperomia Pixie (or Pixie Lime)
Another straightforward peperomia, both the pixie and the pixie lime are easy and beautiful. Similar watering to the caperata, you will get a bushier, less leggy plant if kept in bright, indirect light. If that’s not an option, it will survive well in medium light conditions. And aside from a few brown tips, this plant is fairly forgiving of a late watering. The bright, vibrant green and lime green colours are certainly a show stopper for your plant collection.
So many options for Easy to Grow Peperomia!
With so many varieties of peperomia (over a thousand!) it can be overwhelming when deciding where to start your plant collection. These 5 are very easy and straightforward plants to care for, as long as you understand typical peperomia care.
